Global organic community in action at BIOFACH and VIVANESS 2024
In Nuremberg, participants along the entire value chain will experience the organic community in action. 2,550 international exhibitors from 94 countries will present their extensive product repertoire at BIOFACH and VIVANESS 2024.
From 13 to 16 February 2024, a total of 2,550 international exhibitors from 94 countries will present their extensive product range at BIOFACH, the World’s Leading Fair for Organic Food, with 150 of them at VIVANESS, International Trade Fair for Natural and Organic Personal Care. In Nuremberg, participants along the entire value chain will experience the organic community in action. The latest burning issues affecting the sector will be discussed in the exhibition halls and two congresses. The BIOFACH Congress is focusing on the topic “Food for the Future: Women’s Impact on Sustainable Food Systems.” There is also plenty of scope for trends and innovations in the supporting programme and on the exhibition floors. This year’s BIOFACH will showcase two sector trends, “Holistic.Climate.Regeneration” and “Personal and Planetary Health”, as well as four product trends: “Sweet Soulfood”, “Transparency”, “Mushroom Mania” and “Clear-Headed Joy”. VIVANESS will highlight the sector trends “Lifestyle & Identity” and “Be Community” and the product trends “Fresh Around The Clock”, “Sensory Beauty” and “Empower Your Beauty”.
“Especially in turbulent times like these, it is even more important to come together and initiate a dialogue. We are looking forward to welcoming the organic community to BIOFACH and VIVANESS onsite and online and offering it a platform for these vital exchanges. This is where we can work together to pave the path to a sustainable future,” explains Petra Wolf, Member of the Executive Board, NürnbergMesse. “The diverse forums and extended supporting programme will provide more capacity than ever to explore trends, challenges and shining lights in the sector as well as best practice examples. For instance, at the new HoReCa – GV & Gastro1 forum or the SustainableFutureLab,” Wolf continues. “We would like to thank all participating exhibitors, visitors and media professionals as well as our partners IFOAM – Organics International, BÖLW, COSMOS and NATRUE. The fantastic response shows how important this annual global community gathering is for the sector!”
BIOFACH Trends 2024:
from “Holistic.Climate.Regeneration” to “Clear-Headed Joy”
This year, the BIOFACH trend jury has for the first time defined overarching industry trends in addition to product trends. These show the broader issues that are currently dominating the organic food sector, while product trends specifically result from the new products registered at the fair.
The two industry trends reveal a clear tendency to reshape the food system in favour of the planet – on the part of agriculture (Holistic.Climate.Regeneration) and consumers (Personal and Planetary Health). Once again, the product trends cover a broad range of categories. There’s something for everyone, from sweet organic products (Sweet Soulfood) and transparent supply chains (Transparency) to various types of mushrooms (Mushroom Mania) and alcohol-free alternatives to wine, beer and spirits (Clear-Headed Joy).
VIVANESS Trends 2024:
from “Lifestyle & Identity” to “Empower Your Beauty”
The industry and product trends highlighted at VIVANESS cover a broad range of current developments in the natural and organic cosmetic cosmos. The trends defined by the VIVANESS trend jury include topics such as authenticity or target groups.
The natural and organic cosmetic sector is focusing more and more on the individuality of its consumers and offering customised solutions for every phase of life and various lifestyles (Lifestyle & Identity). At the same time, it is increasingly important for industry players to ensure transparency and authenticity, whereby the formation of communities from the considerable number of industry stakeholders plays a vital role (Be Community). The three product trends reflect the vast world of natural deodorants in all forms (Fresh Around The Clock), haptic and sensory experiences during the daily skincare and beauty regime (Sensory Beauty), and the growing range of high-performance decorative natural and organic cosmetics (Empower Your Beauty).
Since autumn 2023, the respective trend jury members have been considering the latest studies, the new products registered for the BIOFACH and VIVANESS Novelty Stands, and product announcements by exhibitors. On this basis, they determined the trends for BIOFACH and VIVANESS 2024. A total of 624 products were registered for the Novelty Stand (BIOFACH: 544, VIVANESS 80). In addition, trade visitors to the combined event will discover a wide range of trends e.g. at the two Young Innovator pavilions subsidised by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The pavilions will feature a total of 43 start-ups and newcomers in 2024 (BIOFACH: 33, VIVANESS: 10). There are also 22 international newcomers at the new BIOFACH pavilion International Newcomers and Start-ups and the VIVANESS special show Breeze.
New in 2024: extended BIOFACH supporting programme
The German Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture has set the ambitious target of 30% organic food in public kitchens by 2030. This is a challenging goal for the out-of-home catering and hospitality sector, where in 2022 the organic component was just 2% (Source: BÖLW Industry Report 20232). A nationwide initiative with funding schemes, certifications and new regulations is designed to increase the number of organic ingredients in out-of-home and communal catering and cut food waste. Experts will explain what this means for catering professionals at the new HoReCa – GV & Gastro forum. BIOFACH 2024 will therefore offer interested participants a comprehensive range of options relating to out-of-home catering. As part of the HoReCa – GV & Gastro forum, experts will provide context for the new regulations, answer questions and discuss challenges. At the same time, practices and approaches that have already been adopted are presented in a series of “pitches”. The interactive area of the forum also provides deeper insights, e.g. through best practice examples, and offers the opportunity for targeted discussions with like-minded professionals.
Another new feature is the SustainableFutureLab, an open and collaborative series of events. Controversial topical issues will be raised and discussed in workshops and expert panels. All participants will work together to develop solutions as a way of being actively involved in the transition to more organic food.
BIOFACH and VIVANESS Congress
In almost 200 high-calibre sessions, exhibitors, visitors and media representatives are invited to help pave the path for a sustainable future. In 2024, the STADTLANDBIO Forum will be part of the BIOFACH Congress and will deliver even deeper insights into organic out-of-home catering. With this year’s congress theme “Food for the Future: Women’s Impact on Sustainable Food Systems”, IFOAM – Organics International and the German Federation of Organic Food Producers (BÖLW) are putting the spotlight on the transformative creative power of women in the food sector and their role in shaping the ecologically sustainable transformation of the food system.
BIOFACH World
NürnbergMesse has proven expertise in the field of organic food. The international organic sector gathers in Nuremberg every year in February at BIOFACH, the world’s leading fair for organic food products. The comprehensive range of certified organic products on display shows their diversity and features from fresh products like dairy and cheese, fruit and vegetables, dry products like grains and pulses, nuts and confectionery, and beverages. The international patron of BIOFACH is IFOAM – Organics International, while the national supporting institution is the German Federation of Organic Food Producers (BÖLW). An integral part of this world-leading fair is the BIOFACH Congress, a knowledge-sharing platform that is unique worldwide. With another seven BIOFACH events in China, India, Japan, South America, Thailand, the USA and Saudi Arabia, BIOFACH World has a global presence and year after year brings together around 4,500 exhibitors and more than 150,000 trade visitors.
