BIOFACH Congress
– This is where the international organic food community discusses!

The BIOFACH Congress is the most important international networking event of the year. Knowledge transfer, exchange and discussion, technically sound and future-oriented, that characterizes the congress accompanying BIOFACH.

BIOFACH Congress Agenda

The latest news, trends and future topics determine the agenda, which is divided into various  congress forums. On a total of four congress days, from Tuesday to Friday inclusive, the industry will come together to share knowledge and experience.

The BIOFACH Congress brings together stakeholders and experts from the industry, politics, administration and the media. Important players and decision-makers from the entire organic sector exchange ideas and network.

All visitors, exhibitors and visitors are invited to exchange ideas, deepen their knowledge and enter into dialogue live and on site.

What makes it special:

  • The congress program is designed by industry players for the industry: Via the "Call for Ideas", everyone is invited to submit program proposals for the congress program. The "Call for Ideas" with all information on the congress focus and forums, conditions of participation is now online.

  • A platform for knowledge even after the trade fair: Exclusively for the trade fair visitors, selected congress sessions will be available afterwards on “BIOFACH digital”, which makes BIOFACH Congress a hybrid congress experience.

Congress focus BIOFACH 2025: Paving the path for Change

With this year's congress focus, IFOAM - Organics International and the Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft, BÖLW, together with BIOFACH, are highlighting the decisive steps that need to be taken together to ensure a sustainable future.
Paving the path for Change!

This year's theme is an invitation to the entire community to take part in this transformative journey at BIOFACH 2025 - for example by proposing topics for the BIOFACH Congress - and to actively help shape the future with positive energy.

In 2025, the focus will be on 3 independent topics that are of great importance for successful change:

Invest in the future - not the past: Ecological practices in the financial world

The thematic facet focuses on ecological practices in the financial landscape to create a resilient and fair financial ecosystem.

Levelling the Playing Field: Fair conditions for all in public procurement

Public procurement can be a pioneer in overcoming socio-economic and environmental challenges. Prerequisite: The playing field is level for all and organic first. When health, ecology, fairness and care are prioritised, organic practices in procurement create systemic change and resilient communities, for example in school catering.

Stories that make sense: Compelling storytelling

How can good stories and clear communication and marketing help to prioritise long-term sustainability over short-term savings - even in times of crisis? And together we can convince even more people of the benefits of organic. Thinking big as a society and on an individual level!

Forums of the BIOFACH Congress

BIOFACH Forum

Market and expert opinion, (food) trends and innovations, outlook and future strategies - the BIOFACH forum covers all topics related to the global organic market, including the natural and organic cosmetics sector. In view of the complex geopolitical situation and economic uncertainty, sustainability issues are generally taking a back seat. This poses new challenges for the organic sector, including the retail trade, from specialist organic retailors to (independent) food retailers and discounters. How to respond to the changing external environment, what reactions and trends are inspiring? The information and discussions offered at the BIOFACH Forum provide orientation.

Fachhandel Forum

The programme of the Fachhandel Forum is only in German.

HoReCa Forum

Following its premiere in 2024 the HoReCa Forum once again sheds lights on the development of organic food in out-of-home catering. Topics such as procurement and product availability, the transformation of kitchens and businesses, Best Practices international, support services from the federal, state and local governments and, experiences in implementing the Organic Out-of-Home Catering Directive (Bio-AHVV) are discussed.

STADTLANDBIO Forum

The STADTLANDBIO Forum discusses ways in which cities and communities can promote high-quality yet cost-effective organic dining options in community eateries while supporting regional organic producers.

Sustainability Forum

Topics include the circular economy, recycling, zero waste, sustainable and alternative packaging options and, beyond product and design, questions of ‘doing business in a collaborative way’. The UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent the vision of a global sustainability plan. How the organic food industry performs in the context of the SDGs is discussed in the Sustainability Forum.

Politics Forum

The Policy Forum draws attention to laws and regulations that affect the organic food industry: Organic Regulations(s), „Green Claims Directive“, “Regulation on Deforestation-free products“, corporate sustainability due diligence (CSDDD), Environmental Labelling ..., are just a few examples of the complex legal framework concerning the organic food industry. Sector stakeholders, representatives from politics and (regional and federal) governments are invited to gather information, exert influence and discuss points of view.

Science Forum

Expert knowledge is more in demand than ever. Problems are becoming more complex; comprehensive and sustainable solutions are being searched for. The Science Forum provides a platform for exchange between scientists, practitioners and consultants. The aim is to adapt research projects to practice and to communicate and discuss research results. These are issues that are on the agenda at the Science Forum.

Agriculture Forum

The Agriculture Forum focuses on the interests of farmers. The agricultural and food system can only be restructured if the livelihood of organic farmers is secured, and the conversion to organic farming offers prospects for future. Training, research, (financial-)support, bureaucracy relief for organic farmers, overall social strategies that strengthen the organic farmers of today and tomorrow. These are some of the topics that will be discussed in the Agriculture Forum.

In addition, other exciting (future) topics are discussed as part of our special shows. If you would like to contribute a topic, please contact eventteam@biofach.de.

As an exhibitor at BIOFACH, you also can book an exhibitor presentation and/or a 15-minute slot on one of our presentation stages directly in the exhibition halls.

You will find further information on this shortly at www.biofach.de.
